Cherokee Middle School seventh grade boys earned two first place relay finishes and recorded three individual firsts in season opening track action last week. Storm Lake defeated the Braves 74-56.

Lance Pingel, Jon Jenness and Ulises Olaiz all logged first place finishes for the Braves, while this host Braves took firsts in the shuttle hurdle relay 1:20 (Logan Thorson, Alex Schossow, Jon Jenness and Pingel), and the sprint medley 2:09.25 (Connor Mahnke, Thorson, Schossow, Jenness).

Lance Pingel won the 200-meter hurdles race (38.47), while Jenness claimed the 100-meter dash (13.45) and Olaiz won the 1600-meter race (6:39.7).

Mike Nixon, Cherokee coach, said he and coach Adam Rapp were happy with how the boys competed. Cherokee was scheduled to compete in a coed track meet in Orange City yesterday.

High Jump - 2. Jenness, 4-4; 3. Connor Mahnke 4-2.

Long Jump - 3. Schossow

Shot Put - 2. Stief 22-8.5; 3. Kruse, 22-4.5

Discus - 2. Kruse 66-5; 3. Stief 66-5.

10-Flight Hurdles - 2. Thorson, 19:08; 3. Schossow, 19:09

400-Meter Run - 2. Mahnke 1:09.78

4x200-Meter Relay - 2. 2:18, Logan Allender, Ashton hill, Bose Spence, Drew Spooner

4x100-Meter Relay - 2. 1:09 Alender, Maverick Stief, Carter Kruse, Spooner

200-Meter run - 3. Spence, 32.57
