Local Librarian Featured for STEM Gem Poster
Youth Librarian Tyler Hahn, from the Cherokee Public Library, was recently informed that he would be featured on the STEM Gem Poster.
For those out of the loop, STEM is a type of curriculum based on the idea of teaching students in the discipline of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. A total of 14 STEM Gem posters have been created over the past 10 years featuring fields in STEM teaching focusing in those fields and students focusing on future STEM careers. Tyler Hahn is the latest to be featured in one of these posters.
Thanks to Hahn, a wide variety of STEM activities are available at the public library. Science Saturday, held the first Saturday of each month, is one such example where a wide range of science based activities. The library recently received a IMLS Grant of $5,000 to go towards a Coding Club, focusing on robotics, tech, and of course coding.
We asked Tyler Hahn what his thoughts were about being featured by STEM. "I was not expecting to be featured," he said, "I got a call from UNI not too long ago about it and I'm just really humbled by the experience and the opportunity."
As for what you can expect from the library in the future, you can expect to see more STEM activities at the Cherokee Public Library. In addition to focusing on literacy, the library also wishes to continue developing partnerships with STEM and local businesses.
For those wishing to congratulate Tyler Hahn on being featured, or simply want to get a glimpse at the STEM activities at the library, you may find both at the Cherokee Public Library, found on 215 S 2nd St. If anyone would like to receive a copy of the latest STEM Gem poster, or any of the posters in the series, you may complete a request form or download and print in house from this website: https://iowastem.gov/stem-gem-poster-series.
