A ribbon cutting took place on January 10 for one of Cherokee’s newest downtown businesses - Northwest CPA, LLC, the accounting firm owned and operated by Cherokee native Michael C. Meloy.

Meloy was born and raised in Cherokee, graduated from Washington High School and later went on to University of Northern Iowa. Once he graduated he joined the Peace Core for a period of time, and traveled around in Florida. While in Florida, he worked as a hotel manager. When he worked as a hotel manager in Houston, Texas, he started doing accounting work, and has continued to do so to this day.

He even met his wife Kristina while in Houston. Before hurricane Harvey could strike, in 2017 the two decided to marry and move back to Cherokee. While his wife works at Custom Designs in Cherokee, Meloy works his office at Northwest CPA.

Northwest CPA provides a wide variety of services for the community. Some of the bigger things the company tackles are tax services, audits, and making sure financial statements are correct. They also provide bookkeeping, payroll, and consultations for businesses just starting up.

In a brief interview with Meloy, we asked him how his business was going. "Business is so far so good." Meloy said. "I've had lots of help from family spreading the word about us." With tax season soon upon us, business for Meloy has been busy, and he keeps chugging along.

If you or someone you know needs help with taxes, or if you want more information on Michael Meloy and Northwest CPA, it can be found on 124 E. Main St. or you can contact him at 712-221-3285.
