Braves Back In Rankings

The powers that be who rank Iowa prep girls’ basketball teams have once again put Cherokee’s Braves back into the rankings at No. 13 in Class 3A.

Cherokee has been in and our to the state rankings numerous times in the 10 times the rankings have been posted this season.

The lady Braves are joined by just two area teams in the 3A rankings - Sioux City Heelan at No. 2 and Okoboji at No. 9. Dike-New Harford leads the 3A ratings.

Locally in Class 1A, the area features five teams in the top 15. Newell-Fonda’s Mustang own the No. 1 spot for the second straight week, while Algona Garrigan and MMCRU maintain their respective No. 4 and No. 6 rankings. Kingsley-Pierson jumped from No. 13 to No. 9 this week while Woodbury Central fell from No. 10 to No. 12 after losing to Ridge View last week.

In Class 2A, West Hancock is in second place behind No. 1 Cascade, who has had a stranglehold on the top seat all season.

Area Class 2A teams making the ratings are No. 8 Hull-Western Christian and No. 14 Emmetsburg.

North Scott remains the No. 1 team in Class 4A with Marion in the runner-up slot. Northwest Iowa is not represented in Class 4A rankings.

Then in Class 5A, Iowa City High is No. 1 and Sioux City East remains at No. 15.
