Linda was born on May 31, 1942, in Gordon, NE, the eighth of eleven children, to Dale and Helen (Blankenfeld) Mansfield. Most of her youth was spent on the family farm in rural Cherokee County, IA, and she attended school in Quimby. On May 31, 1959, she married Raymond L. Flewelling of Washita, IA, and they set about accomplishing their dream of raising a large family not far from the farms where they grew up. They were blessed with eight children: LeRoy Scott, Raymond Travis, Harvey Dale, Kathleen Renee, Michelle Corey, Barton Hayes, D'Artagnan Lee, and Luther Casey. Linda was confirmed at the United Methodist Church of Quimby. After marriage she was a long-time member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Quimby and in later years, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. She was active in Lamplighters and the Okoboji Women's Club. She served as the Township Clerk for Pilot Township. Linda enjoyed reading, spending time with her grandchildren, painting, and volunteering time with elderly. She was an example of living life with grace and humility during many lean years. Her homemade bread and calzones were always a welcoming sight, being a maternal figure to family and stranger alike.
Preceding Linda in death were her parents Dale and Helen, husband Raymond, son LeRoy Scott, brother Keith Mansfield, and sisters Virginia Gagnon and Gail Reinert. Linda is survived by seven of her children: Travis Flewelling of Clayton, NC; Harvey (Kristin) Flewelling of Superior, CO; Kathleen (Gregory Barker) Flewelling of Seaside, OR; Michelle George of Spirit Lake, IA; Bart (Angela) Flewelling of Albuquerque, NM; D'Artagnan Flewelling of Omaha, NE; and Luther Flewelling of Spirit Lake, IA; fourteen grandchildren: Lindsey Flewelling, Kory Barker, Rhea Toler, Michael Flewelling, Jordan Flewelling, David Flewelling, Douglas Flewelling, Samuel George, Cecelia Flewelling, Jackson George, Keenan Flewelling and Luther Flewelling, Jr; two great-grandchildren: Aurora and Ezra Flewelling; three brothers: James Mansfield of Kadoka, SD; Harry Mansfield of Pierson, IA; and Richard Mansfield of Sioux City, IA; and four sisters: Jean Ireland of Oral, SD; Audrey Neiffer of Chamberlain, SD; Betty Schmidt of Early, IA; and Judy Gross of Sutherland, IA.
