Table set for Nov. 3 election

The 2020 Primary Election results for Cherokee County have established the field for the Tuesday, Nov. 3 general election.

With few Democrat candidates, most GOP Primary winners will be elected in the Nov. 3 election. Locally, the only race is for County Supervisor - District 2, with Republican Bryan Petersen to be challenged by Democrat Linda Bindner.

For U.S. representative in District 4, GOP winner Randy Feenstra will be challenged by unopposed Democrat J.D. Scholten. For U.S. Senate, unopposed GOP winner Joni Ernst will be challenged by Democrat Theresa Greenfield.

The County Election Turnout was 41.46% of eligible voters with 3,394 of 8,186 registered voters casting a ballot (2,834 Republican ballots and 560 Democratic ballots). Vote totals are as follows:

•State Representative - District 3

Republican: Dennis Bush – 1,304 votes. K. Lynn Evans – 981 votes. Mark McHugh – 282 votes. No Democrat candidate.

•County Supervisor - District 1

Republican: Rick Mongan – 2,343 votes. No Democrat candidate.

•County Supervisor - District 2

Republican: Bryan Petersen – 1,605 votes. Don Drefke – 852 votes. Democrat: Linda Bindner – 419 votes.

•County Supervisor - District 5

Republican: Duane Mummert – 2,328 votes. No Democrat candidate.

•County Auditor

Republican: Kris Glienke – 1,592 votes. Stephanie Thill – 1,152 votes. No Democrat candidate. •County Sheriff

Republican: Derek Scott – 1,770 votes. Steve Schuck – 686 votes. Michael McDonald – 342 votes. No Democrat candidate.

•County Recorder To Fill A Vacancy

Republican: Samantha Boothby – 2,349 votes. No Democrat candidate.

•U.S. Senate

Republican: Joni Ernst – 2,405 votes. Democrat: Theresa Greenfield – 385 votes. Kimberly Graham – 63 votes. Michael Franken – 42 votes. Eddie J. Mauro – 33 votes.

Cal Woods – 15 vote

•U.S. Representative - District 4

Republican: Randy Feenstra – 1,447 votes. Steve King – 792 votes. Jeremy Taylor – 290 votes. Bret A. Richards – 137 votes. Steven Reeder –60 votes. Democrat: J.D. Scholten – 520 votes.

•Senator - District 2

Republican: Jeff Taylor – 2,192 votes. No Democrat candidate.
