Eddie L. Wiebe
Eddie L. Wiebe, age 85, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020 from complications of Covid. Ed was born to John and Jacobena Wiebe April 7, 1935 in Marion, SD. He graduated from Salem High School, then served in the Army where he went to Germany. He later moved to Cherokee, Iowa where he was employed at Wilson’s meat packing plant for 33 years until retirement in 1997.
Ed is survived by the love of his life Carolyn, his sons Eddie and Charlie, stepson Steve, stepdaughters Alice, Jane and Kristi, twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, his brothers John (Colleen), David (Joyce), Danny (Gayle), and his sisters Marilyn (Jim) and Betty (Rod). He was preceded in death by brothers Mentor and Jimmy, his sister Elaine, and his parents John and Jacobena Wiebe.
Ed and Carolyn, who had known each other in junior high, reconnected after a Salem 100 Year School Celebration. They spent most of their 39 years of married life in Cherokee. They enjoyed many friendships and wonderful neighbors during those years. Ed’s severe neuropathy eventually took many things he loved from him such as cards and gardening. They moved up to Apple Valley, MN three years ago to be closer to family and accessible medical care. Ed and Carolyn liked to reminisce over fun evenings and times they’d spent in Cherokee at the weekly drawing, football pool, playing cards, camping, fishing, working on the yard and garden, feeding squirrels, hunting trips to Montana, the Minnie Winnie trips, chasing hot air balloons, and just laughing and “talking smart” with their friends. Ed was known to his friends in the old gang who admired his sense of humor as the Rhinestone Cowboy, Fast Ed from Salem, SD Who Knew “Stuff”, and The King of Stuff. He loved sports, but especially his Twins, Vikings and his Hawkeyes! May you be healed and cheering on you favorite teams now Ed, play ball!
