JV Net Gals Go 2-1 At Spencer
SPENCER - Cherokee's junior varsity volleyball team finished 2-1 in tournament action here last weekend.
The young Braves, coached by Jodi Mongan, defeated Okoboji in the first match of the Spencer Invitational by set scores of 21-8 and 21-17, before losing match two to Estherville-Lincoln Central 2-0 by sets scores of 13-21 and 18-21.
In the final match, the Braves rebounded and handily defeated Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn by convincing set scores of 21-6 and 21-8.
In the win over Okoboji, Hannah Pigott paced the Braves in serving, going 9-9 and logging four aces, while teammate Parissa Fredeeriksen went 9-9 from the service line with three aces. Also serving well for the Braves was Kylie Christensen, going perfect at 6-6 with an ace.
At the net, Cherokee had 16 kills led by Jaylee Happe with five, Paris Mendez with four and Taylor Christensen with three.
In the loss to E-LC, Elisa Anderson and Pigott were both 5-5 in serves with ne ace each, while Frederiksen went 6-6. At the net, Olivia Fox led Cherokee with three kills on three attempts, while Happe and Kylie Christensen also had three kills each.
In the final match with HMS, Cheyenne Weiland led the Braves in serves with a perfect 10-10 and one ace, while Happe and Pigott went 4-4 with an ace each.
In hitting, the Braves were 19-23 in kills with only two errors and were led by Happe with six kills. Mendez and Frederiksen were 3-3 in kills and Taylor Christensen was 4 of 6 at the net.
