School Board annual meeting
The Cherokee School Board conducted its annual reorganizational meeting at Monday’s regular monthly meeting, including naming new Board officers and members as elected in the Nov. 2 School Elections.
Jodi Thomas was elected Board President, and Angie Anderson Vice President. Thomas replaces former Board member Laura Jones who served a 4-year term and did not seek re-election. Jones served as Board President the last two years and was honored with a resolution of recognition for her service to the District.
New Board member Ray Mullins Jr. joined returning member Brian Freed in being sworn in. Both victorious in the Nov. 2 election, Mullins replaces Jones and Freed continues in his seat after serving out the term of former Board member Chuck Wulfsen who left the District last year before his term was up. They join Thomas, Anderson and Patty Brown on the 5-member Board.
In approving the Consent Agenda, the Board approved the resignations of Katie Smith as CMS Paraprofessional, and Scott Lovell as CMS Football Coach.
Contract Extensions were approved for Angie Creel as WHS Assistant Large Group Speech Instructor, Matt Mongan as WHS Freshman Girls Basketball Coach, and Jim Leonard as WHS Volunteer Boys Basketball Coach.
In further annual meting action, the Board appointed Kim Lingenfelter as Equity and Affirmative Action Coordinator and Title IX Coordinator; Brian Christiansen and Lingenfelter as Child Abuse Level 1 Investigators; Christiansen as Title I Coordinator and Foster Care Coordinator; Tom Ryherd as Homeless Liaison and Homeschool Liason; Rachel Doeden and Cara Jacobson as Wellness Policy Coordinators; Scot Aden and Lingenfelter as Harassment Investigators; Jolleen Heater as Level II Harassment Investigator; John Cook and Steve Avery as Legal Counsel; Aden as EL Coordinator and Migrant Coordinator; Christiansen, Aden, Ryherd, and Lingenfelter as Administrative Representatives for the Teacher Quality Team; and James De Vos, Abby James, Cindy Husman, and Kathy Curtis as Teacher Representatives for the Teacher Quality Team.
Board appointments include Anderson & Thomas to the Curriculum and Instruction Committee; Brown & Freed to the Policy Committee; Freed & Mullins to the Finance Committee; Brown & Mullins to the Building, Grounds and Capital Projects Committee; Anderson & Thomas to the Transportation and Nutrition Committee for the 2021-22 school year.
