Curtis †Leroy †Brownmiller, 70, of Spencer, Iowa, passed away Monday afternoon, March 28, 2022 due to injuries received in a motor vehicle accident near Hull, Iowa.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa with military rites by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 and the Cherokee American Legion.

†A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) / CrossWinds Church in Spencer, Iowa. Pastor Jon Pausley and Pastor Jordan Gowing will officiate. A time of fellowship will follow the service in the church dining hall.† Online condolences can be left at

Curtis was born on April 7, 1951 at Cherokee, Iowa to Harland and Barbara (Jones) Brownmiller. He graduated from Clay Central High School in 1969 and then attended the University of South Dakota. He served in the United States Air Force from 1971 until 1977 being stationed in Japan for several years, being honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. Over the years he had worked for Boeing, MCI/World Com, and at Eatonís in Spencer, Iowa. Curtis had also worked as a sub-contracting technician for multiple computer repair companies. He was married to Patricia Ann Massey in June of 1991 and she passed away on September 30, 2016. Curtis had lived in Richardson, Texas for many years, moving back to Spencer, Iowa 4 years ago.

Curtis was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Spencer, Iowa. He was also a member of the American Legion, Spencer Area Activity Center and while in Texas was a member of the Texas Buzzards Bowling Club.

Curtis enjoyed bowling, working with computers, and spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harland and Barbara Brownmiller, his wife Patrica Massey Brownmiller, and a son C. Michael Brownmiller in 1999.

He is survived by a daughter: Christine Florio, step-children, grandchildren and step- grandchildren; his siblings: Jeffery (Myriam) Brownmiller of Casa Grande, Arizona; Connie (Daniel) Hollander of Spencer, Iowa; Julie (Edward) Kinsley of Spencer, Iowa; also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
