McGee resigns from CPD

A Cherokee Police officer charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident after allegedly striking a 6-year-old girl at the intersection of North Roosevelt and Indian May 20th, has resigned his position.

The Iowa State Patrol charged Michael McGee, 52, with leaving the scene of an injury accident in connection with a pedestrian collision that occurred around 3:32 p.m. May 20.

An investigation by state patrol found McGee, off duty at the time of the accident, was traveling northbound on North Roosevelt in a pick-up truck and struck the girl in a crosswalk. McGee fled the scene and did not return, state patrol alleges.

An investigation into the incident continues.y.

I wonder why it took until the next day to turn himself in? As an (ex)officer of the law he should know procedure... That is unless he was hiding something a lot more incriminating than a hit and run.

Before people make comments and place judgment on an officer of the law people need to know all of the facts. As was posted earlier by an (ex)officer they should know better than to make comments like that because if they did know the facts they shouldn’t be talking about anything as there is confidentiality that should be kept or that person can be charged as well. Officer McGee is and always will be a GREAT COP unlike some of the past officers that Cherokee has had. The truth will come out and Officer McGee will be found innocent of any all charges.
