Braves baseball picks up 14 runs to take down Royals

CHEROKEE - The Cherokee baseball team hosted MMCRU on Tuesday and took a 14-5 win over the Royals.

MMCRU hopped on the board early with a run in the top of the first but the Braves took the lead with a pair in the bottom half of the inning. MMCRU plated four in the second to take the lead but Cherokee scored three more in the bottom half of the inning to tie it up at 5-5. After a scoreless third the Braves finally pushed a run through in the bottom of the fourth and broke things open with four runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.

MMCRU had eight hits in the game, all singles, for four RBIs. They were walked six times, hit by pitches four times, and struck out nine times. Junior Branden Whited led the bats with three hits for an RBI while senior Colin Pick had a pair of RBIs off two walks and a sacrifice fly.

Pick pitched most of the game and allowed seven hits, nine runs, five earned, while walking six and striking out four. Senior Preston Astidias allowed two hits for an unearned run while freshman Xander Tentinger allowed four earned runs off four walks, a hit batter and a strikeout.

Cherokee is now 6-2 and was scheduled to face Estherville last night. They will host 2-2 Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Saturday at 10 a.m. before facing 0-1-1 East Sac County at noon.

MMCRU is now 3-3 and was scheduled to host Harris-Lake Park on Wednesday. They will host 4-4 Akron-Westfield on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
