Raptor baseball picks up a pair of road wins with one loss

The Ridge View baseball teams hit the road last week and took a 7-5 win over Westwood on Wednesday, fell 6-4 to Keumper Catholic on Thursday, and beat River Valley 20-1 on Friday.

On Wednesday the Raptors scored a run in each the second and third before Westwood tied it up with a run in the bottom of the third and fourth. The host Rebels took the lead with three runs in the fifth but the Raptors pulled it back and took the win with five runs in the sixth.

Ridge View hit six singles for five RBIs in the game while being walked six times, hit by pitches five times and striking out seven times. Junior Tracin Price led the bats with a pair of singles or two RBIs while eighth grader Kinnick Jensen hit two singles for an RBI.

Junior Caden Biede pitched all seven innings and struck out five while allowing seven hits, five runs, two earned, and walking four. The team made three errors on 34 total chances in the field.

On Thursday the Raptors scored a run in the top of the first before the host Knights fired back with four runs in the bottom of the first. Both team scored a run in each the third and fourth before the Raptors attempted a comeback in the seventh but fell short as they could only plate one run.

Ridge View had seven hits in the contest, five singles, a double and a triple, for four RBIs while bine walked three times, hit by pitches twice and striking out four times. Eighth grader Blake Myrtue hit a single for two RBIs while senior Cameron Spina hit a single and a triple. Senior Tyhler Kolpin made the start on the mound and struck out five, allowed five hits, six runs, four earned, walked three and hit one batter in four innings of work. Freshman Noah Struck came in as relief and struck out one while allowing nothing on base in his two innings of work. The team made only two errors in 24 innings of work.

On Friday the Raptors traveled to face River Valley and took a 20-1 win. The Raptors pushed a pair of runs across in the top of the first before scoring three more in the third. Both teams scored a run in the fourth while Ridge View scored one in the fifth and had a huge sixth inning with 13 runs scored.

The Raptors had 15 hits in the game, 12 singles, two doubles and a triple, for 19 RBIs while being walked 11 times, hit by pitches three times and striking out four times. Spina led the bats with a single and a double for four RBIs while Price hit two singles for three RBIs. Kolpin hit a single and double for two RBI, Biede hit a single and triple for two RBI, sophomore Gabe Chance and Jensen hit a single for two RBIs each while Cael Myrtue had two RBIs. The team stole 10 bases in the game, led by Kolpin with five while Price had three.

Blake Myrtue made the start on the mound and struck out seven while allowing one hits, one earned run and walking one in six innings of work. Jensen came in as relief and struck out one while allowing one hit.

The Raptors are now 4-5 overall, 3-1 in the Western Valley Conference, and were scheduled to face West Monona on Monday and South O’Brien on Tuesday. They will travel to face 4-5, 1-2 in WVC play, MVAOCOU tonight at 7:30 p.m.

River Valley is now 0-7, 0-3 in the WVC, and was scheduled to face Woodbury Central on Monday. They will host 3-3, 2-1 in WVC play, Lawton-Bronson tonight at 7:30 p.m.
