QUIMBY - The long-standing traditions of children’s parades, BINGO, carnival rides, cake walks, the church food stand, and, of course, the FREE watermelon, have been bringing generations to this otherwise quiet Iowa town.

Beginning Friday, June 24th, and continuing Saturday, June 25th, there are events for almost every member of the family to enjoy.

On Friday and Saturday, the Church Food Stand opens in the Quimby Community Center on Main Street. The traditional menu of hot dogs, chili dogs, and memorable taverns is something to look forward to. The variety of pies and bars offers a mouth-watering selection rivaling any dessert buffet bar. Volunteers from the Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Quimby Methodist Church, and Washta Methodist Church will be serving from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. both days.

The always-popular BINGO Stand is also open both evenings. The first number will be called at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and continue until 11 p.m. On Saturday, the stand will be open from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.

The McDermott Family Shows will fire up the rides and open the midway at 5 p.m. on Friday and at 3 p.m. on Saturday, which is also Kids Day, with reduced ride prices from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

On Friday night , cash drawings sponsored by Central Bank will be held each hour beginning at 7 p.m., with the last drawing at 10 p.m. You must be present to win!

Saturday’s events begin early with a registration for the 5K Run/Walk starting at 7 a.m. The Run/Walk begins at 8 a.m. The Annual Watermelon Days Golf Tournament kicks off the the Quimby Golf Course at 8 a.m.

“Bob’s Bargains” will be open on Main Street from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. You never know what you’ll find here and you could haul home a real treasure.

Other events on Saturday include a Kids Scavenger Hunt, a bean bag tournament, a Kids Craft Station, Special K’z Clown Show, and a “Hello Summer Watermelon” painting class. The Cake Walk starts at 1 p.m. at the Fire Department.
