KP/WC, Hinton take River Valley titles

CORRECTIONVILLE – The Kingsley-Pierson/Woodbury Central boys and Hinton girls won team titles at the River Valley Invitational track meet here on Friday. KP-WC totaled 175 points to runner-up Ridge View’s 110 in boys’ action, while the Hinton girls’ 144 points were just enough to edge Ridge View, whose 135 points enabled the Raptors to take two runners-up spots.

Area boys who performed exceptionally well included Ridge View’s Jason Kenny, who won the 3200 meter run with his time of 10:59.98, edging runner-up Cody Cumming of KP/WC by .28. Kenny’s Raptors teammate Christian Egger was third; Ridge View’s Trevor Irwin placed second in the 400 meter hurdles, with River Valley’s Dylan Fluke taking third; Fluke took home first place in the 200 meters, in a time of 24.44; Ridge View finished the meet with a flourish, setting a new meet record of 44.51 in winning the 4 x 100 Relay and then winning the 4 x 400 in 3:33.93.

 

 

Ridge View’s Jessica Mathes and Roxanne Grundmeier were the only area athletes to win individual girls’ events, with Mathes finishing first in the 800 meters in a time of 2:34.34, and Grundmeier taking the 200 meters in a time of 27.21, but several area girls finished as runners-up. Included in this group were several Ridge View athletes : Jadyn Mohr in the High Jump (4-10); Kysa Bennett in the shot (32-11); Gretchen Kistenmacher in the Long Jump (15-10 1/2); Sydney Kistenmacher in the 100 meters (13.25); and the 4 x 100 Relay. The Raptor girls took home the gold in two other relays : the 4 x 200 and 4 x 400. Brittny Shropshire had River Valley’s best finish, taking home third in the 100 meter hurdles (17.04). The Wolverines also had a third place finish in the Distance Medley Relay (4:48.65).
