River Valley splits pair to start volleyball season


REMSEN – The River Valley volleyball team traveled to Remsen to compete in a triangular against Remsen St. Mary’s and West Harrison on Thursday evening.

  The Wolverines first faced the Hawks and lost 2-0. RSM quickly took a 25-10 victory in the first set before a close-fought 25-22 win in the second to sweep the match 2-0.

  River Valley’s offense had 13 kills and 12 assists. Senior Klaudia Pry led with five kills while senior Addison Goettsch had three. Sophomore Myah Dausel had all 12 assists. On defense the team had 17 digs and two blocks. Sophomore Alaina Goettsch had four digs to lead while junior Nativity Edwards and sophomore Jaci Jacobson had three each. Alaina Goettsch and sophomore Addie Law had a block assist each. The team had four aces of 29 successful serves off 33 attempts for a serve efficiency percentage of 87.9. Senior Maddie Thomas had three aces and went seven of eight while Addisyn Goettsch had an ace and went seven for seven.

  Following the loss the Wolverines faced West Harrison and took a 2-0 victory. They won the first set 25-16 before taking the seconds 25-15 to sweep the match.

  On offense the team had 21 kills, 21 assists and a kill efficiency of .204. Alaina Goettsch had six kills while Addisyn Goettsch followed with five. Dausel again had all 21 assists. Defensively the team had 12 digs. Alaina Goettsch led with five while Edwards and Thomas had two each. They served up eight aces on 38 successful serves off 48 attempts for a 79.2 serve efficiency percentage. Senior Frankie Allender had two aces and went five for five on serves.

  The Wolverines start their season 1-1 and were scheduled to face 1-2 Siouxland Christian on Tuesday. They will host Sibley-Ocheyedan on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
