Fatal crash remains under investigation

A teenager died last week after he was involved in an evening crash near Correctionville.

According to the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office, emergency personnel was dispatched around 6:30 p.m. on March 22 near Hwy. 31 and 145th Street for a two-vehicle collision. Both vehicles were reportedly southbound of Hwy. 31 when the crash occurred.

Authorities said the crash sent both vehicles into a ditch and one of the vehicles, driven by a 17-year-old male, rolled multiple times, causing him to be ejected. He was airlifted to MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City, where he died from his injuries.

The other vehicle was driven by a 16-year-old male who was transported to a hospital for minor injuries.

Authorities have not identified the drivers involved in the crash. An investigator with the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday said that the incident remains under investigation.
