Sheriff conducts search in meth probe

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a series of methamphetamine sales in Cherokee and Cleghorn.

Court records show a sheriff deputy seized a cellphone from a rural Cleghorn woman, accessed a Facebook account managed by a Cherokee man and searched a residence at 110 E. Front St. The owners of the cellphone, the Facebook account and the Cleghorn residence are suspected to have sold methamphetamine to confidential informants, according to a deputy’s affidavit that was submitted to a magistrate judge.

Sheriff Derek Scott declined to comment on why the search warrants were filed within a week of each other.

“Due to pending investigations, I am not willing to comment,” Scott said last Wednesday.
