Woman sentenced to probation in pimping case

A Manilla woman was sentenced to two years of informal probation for soliciting sex services to an Aurelia man via the social dating app Tinder.

Cherokee County District Court Judge Andy Smith sentenced Kellsea Williams, 26, to the probation term in an order filed on March 27.

Williams agreed to serve the sentence, according to court records. She pleaded guilty to misdemeanor prostitution four days before Smith’s order was handed down. In exchange for her guilty plea, Cherokee County Attorney Ryan Kolpin agreed to recommend probation in lieu of two years in prison. Williams also agreed to pay fines, court-appointed attorney fees and court costs incurred from the misdemeanor conviction.

Williams was arrested in December by Aurelia police after an investigation found she solicited sex services for money. The charge stemmed from an encounter between a male victim, Williams and her husband, Jabari Akins Kolaker, in November.

The victim told police that he sought sex with a single woman via Tinder, but Kolaker demanded money from the victim when the conversation shifted to text messages.

Kolaker and Williams traveled from their home in Manilla to Aurelia on the night of the encounter with the male victim, who thought he was going to have sex with Williams, according to Aurelia Police Chief Brian Flikeid. The pair abandoned an attempt to solicit Williams, according to court records, but pressed the victim for money due to alleged dire financial circumstances.

Flikeid and officers with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office were on site to intercept the Williams and Kolaker.

The investigation first centered on Kolaker, who was suspected of soliciting Williams against her will. Flikeid found Williams was an active participant in what he described at the time as a “pimping investigation.” Kolaker has since pleaded guilty to a felony pimping charge and is expected to be sentenced at a later date. In a separate agreement with Kolpin, Kolaker agreed to serve five years probation in lieu of five years in prison. The agreement is subject to approval by a district court judge.

Kolpin did not respond to a request for comment on the disposition of charges against Kolaker and Williams.

Flikeid credited the victim for promptly contacting law enforcement when he found out the sex act was being offered in exchange for money.
