After his Dad lost his family farm during the Depression in 1937, Lynn moved with his older brothers, Ronald & Paul to Struble Iowa. He was confirmed in St John’s Lutheran Church in 1944, went to high school in LeMars, lowa, graduating in 1948. Lynn went to Nebraska State Teacher’s College in Wayne, Nebraska, graduating in 1952.

On August 12, 1951, Lynn was united in marriage to Donnabeth Bressler at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayne. Following their marriage and his graduation, Lynn taught and coached, first in Thedford, NE for two years, in Chadron, Ne for one year. (Shop, social studies, PE, and coaching football, basketball, track).

Lynn came to Cherokee, Iowa in 1955 as industrial arts teacher, becoming principal at Wilson Junior High in 1957. Lynn subsequently received his Master’s degree at University of South Dakota in 1961. Lynn served as principal for 32 years, transitioning to being principal at Roosevelt Elementary School for most of the 1980’s, retiring in 1991. He often would marvel at how much the little kids loved him as he monitored the playground, as he didn’t find the same type of love monitoring the lunch room at Wilson.

Pity the poor student who didn’t eat his/her asparagus!

Lynn loved to hunt and fish and all sports: Golfing – 4 hole-in-ones, Cherokee Country Club champion two times; Bowling, winning city league bowling tournament once, and let’s not forget countless cribbage games and tournaments at Dorr’s Sporting Goods.

For 3 decades he officiated over the long jump pit at the Tomahawk Relays. In 1980 he was chosen to be the Honorary Referee for the annual event.

Lynn was a member at Trinity Lutheran Church for almost 68 years, serving in almost every capacity, President, Secretary-Treasurer of the congregation, as Elder for many years, as well as Sunday School director. Lynn was most proud of heading the Building Committee for the new addition in the early 1960’s and was so excited over the prospect of seeing the completion of the current addition to Trinity.

Lynn is survived by his three sons: Steven (Wanda) Schwier of Atlantic, lowa, Bret (Cindy) Schwier of Elk Point, SD, and Craig Schwier of Perryton, TX, as well as his daughter-in-law of his deceased son Scott, Karen Schwier of New Hampton, IA.; 8 grandchildren, Alana (Ryan) Brown, Seth (Kassidi) Schwier, Jaime (Brock) Frahm, Matthew Schwier, Timothy (Cassie) Schwier, Carrie (John) Taylor, Paul (Ashley) Schwier, and Jennifer (Justin) Buendia.; 23 great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends.
