The 38th annual RAGBRAI (Register's Great Bike Ride Across Iowa) took off from Sioux City on Sunday July 17, and passed through two Cherokee County communities that day, on their way to the first night's overnight stop in Storm Lake. Both communities were ready for the thousands of bicycle riders who came through, providing food, drink, refreshment and entertainment to their visitors.

RAGBRAI rider - Cherokee resident Dennis Bahr is pictured next to his bicycle while riding from Quimby to Storm Lake on Sunday as part of RAGBRAI. This year marks the fifth time the Bahr has rode in this popular Iowa event. His first ride was in 2004 from Schleswig to Wall Lake, 2006 from Anthon to Ida Grove, 2007 from Sanborn to Spencer and 2008 from Missouri Valley to Neola. Bahr begins his training every year as soon as the snow melts and he can be seen peddling around Cherokee or on his way to Quimby and back. (Photo contributed)
