Braves baseball falls to Spencer last week


The Cherokee baseball team traveled to take on Spencer last Wednesday where they suffered a 12-2 loss.

The host Tigers scored five runs in the first and two in the second before the Braves pushed a run across in the third. Spencer scored three runs in the fifth, the Braves put up one in the top of the sixth, and the Tigers scored two more in the bottom of the sixth for the 12-2 final.

Cherokee hit five singles and had two RBIs. They were walked once and struck out five times. Senior Alex Kohn scored a run, hit two singles and had an RBI while sophomore Cameron Kohn scored a run, hit a single and had an RBI. Seniors Drew Spooner and Carter Kruse each hit a single as well.

Junior Henry Lugar, Alex Kohn and sophomore Blake Lovell each stole a base in the game. Alex Kohn pitched just over three innings and allowed six hits, five runs, four earned, walked four and struck out three. Senior Kael Miller threw for two innings and allowed seven hits, seven runs and walked three.

Cherokee is now 7-12 overall, 0-6 in the Lakes Conference, and were scheduled to face Western Christian on Wednesday. They will host 7-7 Hinton on Friday at 7 p.m.
