BRUCE  M.  WERNER, 74, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on Monday evening, July 29, 2024 surrounded by his family.

Bruce was born on November 4, 1949, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Kenneth & Norma (Brown) Werner. He graduated from Sac City High School in 1968 and spent most of his career working for IBM, and then his “dream job” at Lowes following his retirement in 2004.

Bruce was an avid Hawkeyes and Vikings fan, but he also enjoyed golfing, fishing, drawing, and woodworking. He always had a new project, a wishing well, lawn ornament, or dollhouse, and loved remodeling, whether it be his home or someone else’s. He loved going to the casino and planning poker games in his garage. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren and always available to lend an ear and share his wisdom (put the shovel down, Todd).

Bruce’s motto was that the only friend he didn’t have was the one he hadn’t met. He will be remembered as someone who could talk to anyone. In a room full of strangers, he always walked away with a friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Brian Werner, and a great-granddaughter Reagen Michelle.

He is survived by his four children: Jamie (Todd) Crum of Cherokee, Iowa; Cary (Scott) Dischler of Rockwell City, Iowa; Jon (Wendy) Werner of Montezuma, Iowa; Kennon Carter of Malcolm, Iowa; step-son: Rick (Carissa) Sneller of Monroe, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Sandra (Laurel) Boerner of Lake View, Iowa; Randy (Paula) Werner of Sac City, Iowa; Bradley (Jean) Werner of Sac City, Iowa; several nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

A Celebration of Life and time of sharing memories will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Online condolences can be left at www.booothbyfuneral.com. The Boothby Funeral Home assists the family with the arrangements.
