Cherokee suffers 17-4 loss in road game to Tigers


The Cherokee softball team suffered a 17-4 road loss to Spencer last Wednesday.

The Tigers scored nine runs in the first and eight in the second for their 17 runs before the Braves put up four runs in the third. Freshman Mahren Malausky pitched the whole game and allowed 13 hits, 17 runs, nine earned, walked three and struck out one.

Cherokee hit five singles and had two RBIs. They were walked once and struck out four times. Junior Olivia Fox and senior Parissa Barnes each scored a run and hit two singles. Sophomore Sophie Thorson scored a run and had an RBI while eighth grader Taelyn Reuter had an RBI. Junior Addison James hit a single and eighth grader Ally Timmerman stole a base and scored a run.

Cherokee is now 6-13 overall, 1-4 in the Lakes Conference, and was scheduled to face Western Christian on Wednesday and Sioux Center on Thursday. They will host 13-8 Hinton on Friday at 7 p.m.
