Dean A. Ohlendorf

DEAN A. OHLENDORF, 73, of Remsen, Iowa, passed away on December 14, 2023 at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa. 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.  Pastor Jonathan Riggert will officiate.  Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at rural Marcus, Iowa.  Military rites will be performed by F.I. Goodburn Post #517 American Legion of Marcus, Iowa.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.  Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com .

Dean was born on April 21, 1950 to Glen and Betty Jean (Hambrock) Ohlendorf at Cherokee, Iowa.  He attended Trinity Lutheran grade school and graduated from Marcus Community School in 1968.  Dean attended the University of South Dakota until he enlisted in the Army National Guard, serving from August 1970 until August 1976. 

Dean was a lifelong farmer, raising cattle and hogs, then just cattle, corn, and a few soy beans.  He loved working on the farm with his son and grandson. 

He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church at rural Marcus, Iowa.

When he wasn’t farming, Dean enjoyed fishing trips, bowling, going west to meet ranchers and load and work cattle, having coffee with his Kenny’s Corner group, and spending time with his family and friends. Dean loved to attend and watch cattle auctions.  He was never prouder then when his grandkids came and worked with him and his son on the family farm

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Betty Ohlendorf.

Dean will lovingly be remembered by his son, Cody and Jen Ohlendorf of Remsen, Iowa and their children EmmaJean, Jonathan, and GracieMae; daughters Mindy (Adam) Rash of Ames and their children Ethan and Aiden, Brandee and Neal Hommerding of Seattle, Washington, and Meagan Ohlendorf (Matt) of Littleton, Colorado; siblings Daniel (Rose) Ohlendorf of Marcus, Iowa and his niece Amanda Ohlendorf, Cindy and Mitch Bauman of Sioux City, Iowa and their children, Zach (Azra) of Omaha, Nebraska, Abbie (Chris) Signore of Cranford, New Jersey, Jessica (Nate) Maahs of Hickman, Nebraska and Harlee (Braden) Troyer of Hickman, Nebraska; 10 great nieces and nephews; longtime hired man and “adopted son” Trevor Jarmuzek.
