Delores M. Richardson, 90, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jonathan Caldwell will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5-7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home. Delores was born on June 19, 1932 in Hartley, Iowa to Leonard and Leola (Hix) Brown. At the age of 3, her family moved to Cherokee, where she graduated from Wilson High School in 1950.
She was married to LeRoy Richardson on November 5, 1950 at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, Iowa. During Roy’s enlistment in the United States Air Force, they lived in Topeka, Kansas, where she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. In 1954, they returned to Storm Lake, where they farmed for 9 years. In 1963, the family moved to Cherokee and entered the wholesale auto parts business, Brown Auto Supply, where she worked as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 1992. Together they raised their family of three children, Dian, David, and Linda.
Delores was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, Iowa. She was also a member of P.E.O. and a Birthday Club.
Besides her love and interest in her family and friends, Delores loved going golfing, needlepoint, especially her involvement through the years with the Cherokee Area Archives. Delores enjoyed going antique shopping, stain glass making and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; brother-in-law, Donald Richardson and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Carolyn and Francis Wiley.
She is survived by her husband, LeRoy of Cherokee, Iowa; three children, Dian Bleil of Mapleton, Iowa, David (Sue) Richardson of Tucson, Arizona, and Linda “Tina” (Scott) Potter of Waterville, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Libby (Rick) Beckman, Lacey Bleil, Meg Bleil, Heather and her children, and Libby and her children; 5 great grandchildren, Grace Bennett, Elexis Hamman, Aiden McDonald, Marcus Hough, and Mallory Hough; sister, Barbara Leonard of Grand Junction, Colorado; sister-in-law Betty Richardson of Storm Lake, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
