George H. Brewer

GEORGE  H. BREWER, 89, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024 at his home with his daughters by his side.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.  Pastor Larry Ostercamp will officiate.  Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa.  Visitation will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.  Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.

George was born on September 10, 1934 to Harry and Myrne (Parks) Brewer at Cherokee, Iowa.  He attended Cherokee Schools, graduating from Washington High School in 1954.  He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1962.  He was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Dooley in 1971 at Elk Point, South Dakota. 

George was a member of the Red Power Club and enjoyed going on antique tractor rides. 

George worked as a farmer his entire life.  He raised livestock and grew crops.  He retired in 2005 but continued to always help on the farm.  George was an avid hunter and never missed a hunting season.  He was a huge gardener and loved sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends and also kept busy canning and freezing items from his garden.  George loved spending time with his family and friends and cherished the time spent with his great-granddaughter, Ada Stowater. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Myrne Brewer, and brothers: Robert (Jake) McCormick, Marvin Brewer, Marion “Shorty” Brewer, and Raymond Brewer.

George will lovingly be remembered by his daughters, Judy Stowater of Cherokee, Iowa and her children, Kirk Stowater and his fiancé Bailey Gaydo, Kyle and Abbie Stowater and their daughter, Ada Stowater, and Kolton Stowater, JoAnn and Stan Remington of Gove, Kansas and their children, Madison and Ryder Book, Chance, Cody, Cole, and Cadon Remington.
