Gwen  R.  (Honsbruch)  Babitzke, 74, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Aurelia, Iowa and originally from Cherokee, Iowa passed away Friday morning, February 10, 2023 at her home following a four year battle with leukemia.

 

Visitation and a time of sharing memories will be held on Wednesday, February 15th with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Gwen’s remains will be cremated following the visitation. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

 

Gwen was born on November 14, 1948 at Cherokee, Iowa to Edgar and Thelma (Cates) Gleason. She graduated from Cherokee Washington High School in 1967. Gwen was married to Dennis Honsbruch on August 20, 1967 at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee, Iowa. Dennis passed away in 2002. She was later married to Edward Babitzke on March 20, 2004 in Sioux City, Iowa.

 

Gwen had worked at the Sunset Knoll Nursing Home in Aurelia for many years as a Dietary Supervisor, retiring in 2003. She enjoyed traveling, reading, crocheting, and spending time with her family.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Thelma Gleason, and her first husband Dennis Honsbruch.

 

She is survived by her husband Edward of Sioux City, Iowa; three daughters: Angela (George) Farrell of Alta, Iowa; Amy Honsbruch of Aurelia, Iowa; Heidi Honsbruch of Sparks, Nevada: one grandson: Justin Ames (Kori Pinard) of Alta, Iowa; 2  great grandsons: Lincoln Ames and Blake Lauer; three step-children: Edward (Jackie) Babitzke Jr. of Phoenix, Arizona; Irene Hulings of Peoria, Illinois; Holly Babitzke of Omaha, Nebraska; one brother: Gary (Patty) Gleason of Aurelia, Iowa; two nephews: Danny and Jason Smith; along with many cousins.
