Harry Boyd Burkhardt, age 66 of Cherokee, IA, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2023, at his home. A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be held on Saturday, from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee is assisting the family with arrangements. Harry Boyd Burkhardt, the son of Donald and Lois (Molgaard) Burkhardt, was born July 7, 1956, in Cherokee, IA. His childhood years were spent in Cherokee, where he attended school and graduated from Washington High School in 1974. After high school, Harry worked for Schoon Construction, Peterson Motors, and then Wilson Foods, where he was a foreman for many years. He later worked for Schmillen Construction, Nebcon, and Telecom. Harry also ran the V.F.W.
On July 9, 2011, Harry was united in marriage to Rita Cockburn. They resided in Cherokee. Harry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and attending concerts. He was an avid motorcycle rider and was always excited to attend a car show, and go on vacations. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
On Saturday, February 4, 2023, Harry passed away at his home in Cherokee, IA, at the age of 66. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Burkhardt.
He will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Rita Burkhardt of Cherokee, IA; children, Michael Burkhardt of Cherokee, IA, and Ashley (Collin) Christensen of Cherokee, IA; mother, Lois Burkhardt of Cherokee, IA; grandchildren, Alivia Christensen, Avery Christensen, Aubree Galvin, Blair Berends, Braxton Galvin, Hailey Galvin, Liz Martin, and Kinzal Martin; step-children, Patricia (Ben) Martin, Justin, Jesse, and Jake (Megan) Galvin; brothers, Blaine (Donna) Burkhardt, and Bill (Karen) Burkhardt; sisters, Debbie (Dan) Williams, and Donise (Bryon) Raper; nephews, Weston (Katie), Ben , Justin, and Jeff (Leann); nieces, Alicia (Marshall), Kelsey (Kyle), Katie, and Jessica; brother-in-law, Ronnie (Denise) Cockburn, sisters-in-law, Rhonda (Curt) Wiese, and Sherri (Keith) Ludvigson; mother of Michael and Ashley, Carol Hageman; and other relatives and friends.
