Justin C. McClain, 34, of Sanborn, Iowa, formerly of Cherokee, Iowa, was called home on Saturday evening, July 27, 2024 from the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Visitation with the family present will be held on Thursday, August 1st, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa with a time of sharing memories by family and friends to conclude the evening at 7 p.m. It was Justin’s wish to be cremated following the visitation. There will be a Celebration of Justin’s Life in conjunction with the scheduled fundraiser on Friday, August 2nd at 6 p.m. at KeeStirs in Cherokee. Justin McClain, born on August 2, 1989, in Cherokee, Iowa, to James and Carol (Harmonson) McClain, lived a life full of love, laughter, and resilience. He attended Sioux Center and Cherokee Washington High Schools, where he formed lasting friendships and memories. In 2010, Justin met Karen King, the love of his life, and their bond grew stronger with each passing day, a testament to their unwavering devotion to each other. Justin’s daughter, McKenna Sue Blumeyer, was born on May 16, 2010, to Justin and Brittany Blumeyer. McKenna was the light of Justin’s life, and he was her biggest fan. He cherished every moment spent cheering her on at volleyball, basketball and softball games, always making sure to be there to support her whenever he could. His endless love and dedication to McKenna were evident to everyone who knew them.
Throughout his life, Justin worked diligently in various roles, including at Jeff’s Scrap Service and Jim’s Lawn Care. He also excelled in construction, operating cranes and forklifts with skill and precision. His work ethic was matched only by his passion for life.
Justin's love for music was profound, earning him the title of Rockband Master among friends. He found joy in simple pleasures like thrifting, disc golf, kayaking, swimming, and grilling for his loved ones. Even during his illness, Justin's spirit remained unbroken. He embraced his native name, Makpayia O’Mani “Walks in the Clouds,” with pride, reflecting his strength and connection to his heritage.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Carol Lee McClain, his maternal and paternal grandparents, his cousin Nathan Beck, and his faithful dog Jaxon.
Justin leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by Karen King of Sanborn, Iowa; his daughter McKenna Sue Blumeyer of George, Iowa; his father James McClain of Primghar, Iowa; his step-father Jeff Gerritson of Sanborn, Iowa; his siblings: Josh Mann of Cherokee, Iowa; Jason Mann of Sanborn, Iowa; Ben (Megan) Lockwood of Cherokee, Iowa; Cheyenne (Colt) McClain of Ashton, Iowa; and Stephanie McClain of Cherokee, Iowa. He is also remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Justin’s life was a testament to the power of love, family, and resilience. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
