Kathleen Mary Ann Letts was born April 24, 1933, to Harold and Mary Ann (Zimmer) Peck in Storm Lake. She was one of 13 children in her family. She attended St. Mary’s School in Storm Lake. She had various jobs while in high school, one being a car hop in Storm Lake. After graduation she moved to California. She helped to take care of her sister Grace’s kids and then started working in a bank. That’s when she met her future husband, James Letts. They were married on Feb. 19, 1955, at Manhattan Beach, Calif. They later moved to Ingelwood, Calif., and that is where Barbara and Debbie were born.
In 1965 they made the move back to Iowa, and Kathleen started working at Central Trust and Savings Bank where she worked for over 30 years before retirement. They then made the move to Okoboji where they lived until Jim died of cancer. Katie moved back to Cherokee where she lived until her death.
Katie enjoyed putting together puzzles, reading, watching game shows, feeding and watching the birds, assisting her daughter with her in-home daycare for the last three years, and spending time with her family.
Preceding Katie in death was her husband Jim Letts; daughter Debbie (Ike) Morrow; her parents, Harold and Mary Ann Peck; brothers: Lou, Leonard, Frank, Raymond, Lloyd and Bob Peck; sisters: Berniece, Ann, Grace, Rose and two siblings in infancy.
Surviving Katie are her daughter Barbara (Donald) Cooper of Cherokee; granddaughter Amy (Chuck) Tilton of Sioux Falls, S.D.; sister-in-law Kathy Peck; and many nieces and nephews.
