Larry Robert Prell, age 71 of Cherokee, IA, passed away Friday, April 11, 2025, at a Sioux City hospital. A public visitation for Larry will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA. Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Mapleton, IA. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA is assisting the family with arrangements. OBITUARY

Larry Robert Prell, the son of Henry and Anna (Wimmer) Prell was born November 27, 1953, in Mapleton, IA. His childhood years were spent in Mapleton, where he attended school and graduated from Maple Valley High School in 1973.

Following high school, Larry worked for Lakin Farms in the Salix and Sloan area. He then worked for Simonsen’s in Quimby, IA, before purchasing the Skyline Motel in 1997. On April 2, 2005, Larry was united in marriage to Bonnie Skaggs in Cherokee, IA. Together they owned and operated the motel until their retirement in 2024.

Larry resided on an farm north of Cherokee, where he enjoyed farming, fishing in his spare time, working on his 57 Chevy, and putting puzzles together.

On Friday, April 11, 2025, Larry passed away at a Sioux City hospital at the age of 71. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Anna Prell; mother-in-law, Arlene Lamont; siblings, John Prell, Mary Prell, Nancy Prell, Raymond Prell, Paul Prell, and Fred Prell.

He will lovingly be remembered by his wife Bonnie Prell of Cherokee, IA; his twin brother, Gary Prell of Rodney, IA; step-children, Heidi (Scott) Hennen of Redwood Falls, MN, Alan Skaggs of Chugiak, AK, Wendy (Tim) Ellison of Atlantic, IA, and Kyle (Megan) Skaggs of Chugiak, AK; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
