Lawrence E. Timmerman, 85, of Cherokee, formerly of Holstein, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 13, at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Burial was in Cushing Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Lawrence was born on Feb. 6, 1940, to Fred and Leona (Schuett) Timmerman at Correctionville. He attended Holstein Community Schools, graduating in 1959. He was united in marriage to Dorthy Krayenhagen on Feb. 11, 1962, at Holstein.

He worked as a farmer for over 40 years raising sheep, chickens, hogs and cattle. He retired from farming in 1998. During his retirement, he took a job as a Walmart greeter in Storm Lake, where he worked for 13 years. He often talked about how much he enjoyed that job seeing and talking to people.

He was a member of the Methodist Church. He was a past 4-H leader and member of Pork Producers and Sheep Producers in Ida County.

Lawrence loved spending time with his family and friends. He absolutely adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed wood working, fishing, trapping, hunting, doing puzzles and gardening — especially his flowers. He loved to tell stories to anyone who would listen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Leona Timmerman; brother and sister-in-law, Harland and Janet Timmerman; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Helen and August Krayenhagen.

Lawrence is survived by his wife Dorthy of Cherokee; children: Lori and Jim Green of Cherokee; and Alan and Ronda Timmerman of Castana; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren: Andrew (Abbie) Green and their children Abram, Agatha, Ainslie and Amelia; Craig Timmerman (fiancé Brianne Babel) and their children Ryker, Reyce, Luna and Tamber; Curtis (Lu) Timmerman; and Samantha (Ethan) Wolf and their children Troy, Rose and one more on the way.
