Where to start. For how many years did Wilson set and not a sound was made about a roof repair? Then when the possibility reared its head that someone was actually interested in acquiring the building, do a renovation of it and make living space that would help ease the housing shortage, my my the tune changed to “Happy Days are here Again.”
The things that now seem to be a problem, should have been addressed in the original contract. Why did we not repair the leaky roof to make the property more desirable? I hear the words, “the Post Office roof leaks, lets tear it down.” Hence, a parking lot that is never filled to capacity. Again, if the contractor won’t jump when we say jump, cancel the contract and hire the wrecking ball. Were there penalties placed in the contract in an effort to keep the contractor on schedule, keep the immediate area free of debris and excessive equipment?
We were all here when our beloved politicians stopped the world to line their pockets. We still have not recovered. I would guess the contractor lost a years time as a result of that.
A couple of final things. Have never heard any bad things about the Lewis Hotel Project. Dumpster sets on the street. The front steps are not in code. People living there while renovation is underway. Several streets are filled with pot holes, travel is less than safe.
Before this project is scrapped and the wrecking ball hired, the people would like to vote on the future of the building. After all, it is our taxes that maintained the building for years.
