Linda A. Brandt

LINDA A. BRANDT, 72, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023 at her residence in Cherokee, Iowa. 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa.  Pastor Larry Ostercamp will officiate.  Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.  Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Linda was born on June 3, 1951 to Claude “Mickey”  and Laura Norcille (Johnson) Jones at Cherokee, Iowa. She attended Cherokee schools, Garfield Elementary, Wilson Junior High, and graduated from Washington High School in 1969. 

Linda worked for Wilson’s in Cherokee, and then at the Coupon Center for several years.  She then worked in various management positions throughout her career with HyVee Warehouse in Cherokee for 40+ years. Linda retired from HyVee in 2015.

She was a confirmed member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee.  She was very active in the church teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and playing in the Bell Choir.  Linda took a part in forming the Contemporary Church Band and playing at their services.  She also attended a circle quilting group.  She was also involved in the Cherokee Community Theatre for many years, both performing and directing.  Linda took a huge interest in the community and in the CADA organization, and she served on its board for many years. She was active with the Cherokee Archives group at the Cherokee Public Library. 

Linda loved her family and they were her #1 priority. She supported and followed their many sporting, dancing, and outdoor activities.  She was an avid reader, and enjoyed working on sudoku and crossword puzzles.  She enjoyed supporting Cherokee Braves sports events and watching the Iowa Hawkeye football.   She enjoyed spending summers at Okoboji with her family, and taking many in-state and out-of-state vacations with her children when they were growing up.  She loved shopping with her daughter and spending time with her grandkids. She was also always waiting to hear hunting, fishing, and trapping stories from her son. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude “Mickey”  and Norcille Jones.

Linda will lovingly be remembered by her two children, Matthew and Shelby Brandt of Loup City, Nebraska and Laura and Nic Ebert and their children Addilynn and Daxton of Cherokee, Iowa; sisters, Marilyn (Al) Burkhart of Fort Collins, Colorado and Lou (Terry) Graybill of Cherokee, Iowa ; nephews, Brad Burkhart of Denver, Colorado, Heath Graybill of Fort Collins, Colorado, Nate Graybill of California City, California and Bart (Kim) Graybill of North Liberty, Iowa.
