Lorna Schroeder, age 91, of Alta, Iowa died Friday, April 12, 2024 in Grimes, Iowa. Funeral services will take place Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in ALTA. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta is in charge of the arrangements.
Lorna Hohbach was born on December 1, 1932 in Marcus, Iowa to Fred and Ruth (Case) Hohbach. Lorna was baptized and confirmed at Caramel Lutheran Church in Marcus. She graduated from high school in 1950 and began working at the Livestock National Bank in downtown Sioux City, Iowa.
On September 13, 1953, Lorna was united in marriage to Burnell Schroeder at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus, Iowa. Together, they had five children: Jeannette, Bradley, Craig, Luann and Rebecca.
After raising her family, Lorna began working at Sunset Knoll nursing home in Aurelia, Iowa. Those 15 years held some of her fondest memories, as the elderly had a special importance to Lorna. She enjoyed her newfound independence and friendships amongst the residents. In her later years, Lorna could be found volunteering at the Well-Cove in Alta.
Surviving members of her family include five children: Jeannette O’Dell of Sheldon, Bradley (Trudy) Schroeder of Alta, Craig (Trudy) Schroeder of Alta, Luann (Dave) Warner of Des Moines, and Rebecca Schroeder of Urbandale. Eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and sisters.
Lorna was preceded in death by her husband, Burnell, parents, parents-in-law, a sister and a brother.
