Maribeth Helen Nissen, age 72 of rural Aurelia, IA, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Philip Beisswenger will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Maribeth Reineking Nissen, passed away on February 2, 2025, in her home. She was the wife of Norman Nissen. They were married for 52 years and were together for 54 years. She was born in Fonda, Iowa on July 23, 1951, and was the daughter of Richard and Marjorie Reineking.
Mary wore many hats during her working life. She was a medical assistant, a bookkeeper, a nurse’s aid at the Cherokee nursing home, she built bridges, grain elevators, and laid telephone cables. Finally, she worked for 32 years at Tyson Foods in Cheroke, Iowa before retiring.
Mary loved shopping, going to casinos and fixing things. She enjoyed cheering her husband and son on at the Primghar and Alta racetracks. She even raced herself for a few years at the Primghar racetrack.
Mary had a good heart. She would peel potatoes for a church supper, help her son deliver newspapers, help her husband with the acreage. She would even drop everything to care for an ailing pet.
Mary is survived by her husband Norman Nissen, her children Heidi Malek and Adam Nissen, her grandchildren James Malek and Ava Laurae Nissen, and her daughter-in-law and son-in-law Alanna Nissen and Aaron Maleh.
She is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Marjorie Reineking and her brother Merril Reineking.
