Marjorie Mavis Huseman was born on November 15, 1931 the daughter of Frank and Matilda (Radke) Huseman on the family farm two miles west of Alta. On March 1st, 1932 they moved to a 320 acre farm in Diamond Township, Cherokee County. She attended Diamond #1 country school until the 7th grade. World War II required many young men, including her brother Dorrel, to serve so farm help was hard to find, so they moved to Storm Lake. They became members of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Marge was confirmed on June 16, 1946. She graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1949. She then attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and took as many science classes as possible, and went on to graduate from Medical Technology in Minneapolis, MN. Marjorie met Kenneth Peterson there and they were married on December 9, 1951. They became the parents of five children; Robert Frank, Kathy Dawn, Bruce Jeffrey, Jayne Elizabeth, and Sharon Leigh. Marjorie was employed at the Sac City Hospital and the Buena Vista County Hospital before marriage. She was the first X-Ray and Lab Tech at Buena Vista County Hospital when it opened in 1951. They gave her a room, X-Ray machine, four boxes of supplies and said “do what you can”, and she made it work! She and Ken moved to a farm three miles east of Aurelia she inherited from her mother and there they raised their five children who all attended St. Paul Lutheran Church and Aurelia School. When Sharon was three Marjorie went back to work as an X-Ray and Lab Tech at the Alta and B.V. County hospitals for 18 years and four years at the Cherokee Clinic. She was also an EMT-A. Her marriage to Kenneth dissolved in 1985.

On January 1, 1988 Marjorie married Ronald Herman Neulieb in Webster, MA, by his brother-in-law Pastor Kenneth Bean. She and Ron enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and Mexico. She became involved in Ron’s business, Control System Specialists in Alta, and served as the secretary for seven years. Marjorie was involved in many community projects too numerous to mention. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, LWML since 1953 having served as vice-president and president, and the voter’s assembly at church. Marjorie was also a member of the neighborhood club the Jolley Janes, the Alta Chamber of Commerce, SERPACI Club, the Hanover Historical Society, B.V. Historical Society – she was the “popcorn lady” on the bank corner for years and in the park on July 4th. She would always say “thank you for the fun” when she was done helping someone, no matter what the chore. It made her happy to help others.

Preceding Marjorie in death were her parents, one brother, Dorrel Huseman and his wife Myrna, her first husband Kenneth Peterson, one son, Robert Peterson, one daughter, Sharon Miller and her husband Robert Miller, one granddaughter, Brooke Anderson, and one nephew, Bill Huseman.
