Teacher’s Undercover
By Andrea Torhus
Last week the MMCRU High School teachers had an “Undercover Dress-Up Week.” The teachers planned different dress-up days that included; Ninja Day (All Black), Sunglasses and Selfies, Christmas Sweater, Anything BUT a Cup, and Flannels and Boots. When I asked Ms. Roberts what her favorite dress-up day was, she replied, “I enjoyed Ninja Day because it was the beginning of the week, and it took students a while to catch on. After that day, students were coming to school throughout the week and trying to figure out which dress-up day was next.” Teachers even had a plan as to what their excuse was for the specific dress-up day. Some included; redirecting students to the weather outside, asking them a question about what they are wearing, or completely ignoring them! It was a fun week to see what the teachers were going to come up with next!
Heep of the Week #7
By Noah Hart and Brody Jackson
Lana Florine is a junior at MMCRU High School. She drives a black 2001 Monte Carlo. Florine named her car, Tina. She takes pride in her bluetooth stereo system. When asked what is one thing you would change about your car, she replied, “Fix my windows that I have to keep taped up!” Florine’s favorite memory with her Monte Carlo is getting stuck with her friends in a snow drift. The basketball team had to come and pull her vehicle out.
MMCRU High School Band and Choir Winter Concert
By Haydn Aduddell
During the most recent month of school functions, the MMCRU High School Band and Choir students have been using class time to prepare for an upcoming winter concert. The event will be taking place on December 2, 2024 at 7pm. Both the MMCRU band and choir groups will be giving individual performances, consisting partly of holiday-themed songs.
The concert is to begin with the MMCRU High School choir’s performance, which will include the songs, “Lizard,” “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “Count the Stars,” and “Gettin’ in the Mood (for Christmas).” These performances are sure to be marked by expertly articulated vocal deliveries and diverse harmonies. The high school band will be taking stage following the choir group, delivering a performance of the suspenseful number “Allegory,” as well as a suite of songs from the Wicked musical. The set will close with “A Christmas Carol,” a tale of Ebenezer Scrooge as he is enlightened on the joys of Christmas. Complete with narration and running at roughly six minutes, this will be one of their most ambitious performances to date.
Senior Year Football Coming to a Close
By Brooklyn Miller and Raegan Hill
We had the pleasure of interviewing Carver Miller and Michael Peterson about their senior year of football. Miller played right guard and defensive tackle, while Peterson played wide receiver and defensive end. Miller’s favorite memory of this year was Noah Hart’s senior speeches because he never fails to make them laugh. Peterson’s favorite memory was playing with everyone on the team. Miller’s most important lesson learned was to never take anything for granted when you think you have a win in sight, it can be taken away, and you have to learn how to watch your back. When we asked Peterson what advice he would give to the upcoming football players, he replied, “Work hard from the start, and don’t think JV doesn’t matter.” Congrats on the great season, and best wishes in the future!
MMCRU Choir and Band Teachers
By Alyssa Harper and Rylee Neddermeyer
We had the chance to interview the MMCRU band and choir teachers. Mrs. Roder (choir) had expressed that their first concert went really well. They had a new accompanist, and the students did a great job adjusting and projecting their sound. Mrs. Roder had stated, “There are always little things that students need to work on before the next concert.” There are currently 24 students out for choir and 30 students out for band! Ms. Davis (band) stated that her band students performed to the best of their abilities. When we asked which piece of music was Ms. Davis’s favorite, she replied, “Come in from the Firefly Darkness because the students really enjoyed that piece.” The next concert is December 2, 2024 at 7 pm!
