Noreen B. Goldhorn Moody

Noreen B. Goldhorn Moody, 80, of Cherokee, IA, passed away on the evening of April 6th, 2024 in her home in Cherokee, Iowa.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Boothby Funeral Home.  Rev. Philip Beisswenger will officiate.  Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa.  Military rites will be performed by the Cherokee American Legion and L.A. Wescott Post #2253.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00- 7:00 p.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com She was born on June 27, 1943 to Rev. Alvin E. and Vera (Willemssen) Goldhorn in Freeport, IL.  She attended Ellsworth Public Schools and Redwood Falls Public Schools in Minnesota before the family moved to Cherokee, IA.  She graduated from Washington High School in Cherokee in 1961.  She attended the University of Dubuque and then worked at St. Joe’s School of Nursing in Sioux City, IA.  She enlisted in the Navy and served from June 1964 to February 1966 as a Corps WAVE, finishing her enlistment as a Petty Officer, 3rd Class. Noreen worked in multiple locations throughout her career including:  Marietta, GA, Clarksville, AR and Tracy, MN.  Noreen later worked as a pediatric nurse at the Fort Defiance Indian Hospital on the Navajo Indian Reservation for nearly 20 years.  Because of the care and concern for her young patients and their families, the Navajo Nation returned her respect by making her an honorary member of the tribe. Noreen took an early retirement in 2005 to return to Cherokee, IA, to care for her mother. Noreen became a member of the Presbyterian Church at the age of 13.  She was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church and their prayer shawl ministry.  She was also a member of the Laurens Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. In her free time, Noreen enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting and reading. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Alvin E. and Vera Goldhorn.  Noreen is survived by one son, James (Hope) Moody and one grandson, Connor Moody, all of Huntington, WV; siblings, Fae (Loren) Bergmann of Nixa, MO, Paul (Martha) Goldhorn of North Augusta, SC, and Vivian (Joe) Schleef of Cherokee, IA; also one niece and three nephews.
