Peg Ann Koch, age 88 of Cherokee, IA, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Accura Healthcare in Aurelia, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, IA. Father Dan Rupp will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cherokee. Visitation with family present will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. There will be a 4:30 p.m. rosary and 7:00 p.m. prayer service Tuesday at the church. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA is assisting the family with arrangements. Margaret Ann “Peg” Koch, 88, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Peg was born on June 28, 1936, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to William and Opal Marie (Pettit) Hix. Peg grew up in Storm Lake and spent most of her free time riding her horse. She graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1954. Following graduation, Peg attended the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA.
Peg loved to dance and spent a lot of time at the Cobblestone, where she met Val Dean Koch. Val and Peg were united in marriage in 1958.
Shortly after graduating from the Iowa State Teachers College, Peg began her teaching career in Goldfield, Iowa. After a few years, Val and Peg moved to their family farm outside of Cherokee where they raised their five children: Scott, Susan, Julie, Michael, and Katie. Peg continued her teaching career teaching at Immaculate Conception in Cherokee and Willow Community School. Peg retired from teaching in 1998, but continued to spend many years in the classroom as a substitute teacher for Cherokee Community Schools.
Peg was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Peg enjoyed traveling. She took many trips with her friends to Palm Springs and Las Vegas. Peg also often joined in on girls trips with her daughters and granddaughters. She loved to read, play golf and cards and go out to dinner with friends. Peg has 15 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren that continued to keep her calendar busy throughout the years.
Peg was preceded in death by her husband, Val Dean Koch; parents, William and Opal Marie Hix; in-laws, Fred and Mildred Koch; brother, Bob Hix; sister-in-law, Ardyce Wolterman; brother-in-laws, Delmar Wolterman and Dale Peterson.
Peg was survived by her five children: Scott (Deb) Koch of Cherokee, Susan (Rob) Kannegieter of Cherokee, Julie (Jim) Peterson of Washta, Mike (Janelle) Koch of Forest City, and Katie (Steve) Schnoor of Carlisle; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sister-in-laws Charlene Peterson and Kathy Hix; and many nieces and nephews.
