Raptors pick up pair of wins, fall to Falcons

The Ridge View baseball team traveled to face MVAOCOU on last Wednesday and took a 5-1 win, fell 13-9 to OABCIG on Thursday and beat Newell-Fonda 9-7 at home on Monday.

On Wednesday the Raptors scored one run in the first, two in the second and one in the fourth before the fourth before the Rams scored their one run in the fifth. Ridge View scored another run in the sixth to take the win at 5-1.

The Raptors had eight hits, five singles and three doubles, with four RBIs. They were walked twice, hit by a pitch and struck out five times. Sophomore Blake Myrtue scored a run and had two hits, a single and a double, with an RBI, while sophomore Owen Worthan hit a double and had an RBI. Sophomore Eli Franken scored a run, hit a single and had an RBI, sophomore Kinnick Jensen had an RBI, and juniors Gavin Vohs and Kyle Burk each scored a run and hit a single.

Ridge View stole 10 bases, three from Myrtue, two from Jensen, Vohs and Franken, and one from Burk. Eighth grader Ryan Barry took the mound for six innings and allowed four hits, one run, walked four and struck out nine. Eighth grader Aiden Myrtue threw for an inning and struck out all three.

In the loss to the Falcons, OABCIG put up two runs in the first and one in the second, but the Raptors scored four in the top of the third. OABCIG fired off for six runs in the bottom of the third, and added three more in the fourth to lead 12-4. Ridge View scored a run in the fifth and four in the top of the sixth to close in at 12-9, but the Falcons scored another in the bottom of the sixth and held the Raptors scoreless in the seventh for the 13-9 final.

Ridge View had 11 hits, 10 singles and a double, with seven RBIs. They were walked three times, hit by two pitches and struck out five times. Worthan hit a single and had four RBIs while Myrtue scored two runs, hit a single and a double and had an RBI. Jensen and Vohs each scored two runs, hit a single and had an RBI, Junior Connor Jacobson scored a run and hit two singles and Franke scored two runs and hit a single.

Myrtue, Vohs and Franken each stole two bases while Jacobson and eighth grader Ryan Barry each took one. Jacobson pitched for just over two innings and allowed three hits, one run, walked two, hit one batter and struck out one, and junior Austin Wood threw for two innings and allowed five hits, four runs, walked three and struck out one. Jensen and eighth grader Aiden Myrtue each saw some time on the mound as Jensen allowed four hits, five unearned runs and struck out one, and Myrtue allowed four hits, three runs, one earned, walked one, hit one batter and struck out one.

In the win over the Mustangs on Monday, Newell-Fonda scored three runs in the top of the first while the Raptors put up two in each the bottom of the first and second. Newell-Fonda scored another two runs in the third but the Raptors tied it up with a run in the fourth, and took the lead with two runs in the fifth. Newell-Fonda scored a run in the top of the sixth, Ridge View added two in the bottom of the sixth, and the Mustangs tallied a final run in the seventh, but the Raptors took the win at 9-7.

Ridge View had 10 hits, six singles, three doubles and a home run, with six RBIs. They were walked seven times, hit by a pitch and struck out eight times. Worthan hit the home run and had two RBIs while Blake Myrtue scored three runs, hit two singles and two doubles, and had two RBIs. Jensen and Vohs each scored a run, hit a single and had an RBI while Barry and Franken each scored a run and hit a single.

Vohs and Burk stole two bases each in the game while Jensen, Barry and Blake Myrtue each stole one. Jensen pitched for five innings and allowed five hits, five unearned runs, walked four, hit two batters and struck out 10. Blake Myrtue threw an inning and allowed one hit, two runs, one earned, walked two, hit one batter and struck out three.

Ridge View is now 12-8 and was scheduled to face East Sac County on Thursday. They will travel to take on 8-10 South Central Calhoun on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
