Funeral services for Rose Marie Shafer, 74 of Cleghorn will be Friday, August 2, 2024 at 10:30 AM at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Don Tisthammer is officiating. Burial will be in Meriden Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 1, 2024 at the Greenwood Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with the family present. Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to Body Dementia Association.
Rose Marie Davis the daughter of William and Anna (Schwebach) Davis was born March 3, 1950 in Primghar, Iowa. Rose started working at the age of 14 at Millies Rest Home. She attended school and graduated from Paullina High School on May 23, 1968. On May 25, 1968 Rose was united in marriage to Lance Cy Shafer in Remsen, Iowa. She moved to El Paso, Texas until Lance was
deployed to Vietnam, then moved back to Paullina, IA, working again at Millies Rest Home.
In 1973 the couple moved to the farm outside of Cleghorn where they worked together on every aspect of farming, Rose enjoyed sewing, crocheting, collecting red glassware, flower gardening, and going on trips, and cruising around with Lance in their vintage and collector cars and pickup. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee.
Rose died on July 29, 2024 at the Orange City Area Health System facility in Orange City, Iowa.
Preceding Rose in death were her grandparents, parents, daughter Anna Marie, nieces: Elizabeth Shafer, Molly Jalas, Jazelle Jalas and Misty Jalas. Survivors are her husband, Lance Shafer of Cleghorn, son, Lance Jr (Theresa) Shafer of Newton, IA, daughter, Wendy Shafer of Winthrop, MN, grandchildren, Byron Shafer, Nicholas Shafer, Benjamin Shafer, sister Pam (Ron) Jalas of Sutherland, IA, two sisters-in-law: Sharon Marsh of Pasadena, CA, Marcee Shafer of Las Vegas, NV, nephew Jordan (Bree) Jalas & family and Faith Jalas and Ron Jr. (Heather) Jalas and family and many other relatives and friends.
