Royal baseball takes four straight wins this week

The MMCRU baseball team won four this past week, a 5-0 win over South O’Brien on Wednesday, 12-4 at home over Trinity Christian on Thursday, 11-1 over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in Remsen on Friday and 10-0 at George-Little Rock on Monday.

Against South O’Brien on Wednesday, the Royals scored two runs in each the first and third, and one in the sixth to win 5-0. MMCRU hit four singles and had one RBI. They were walked twice, hit by two pitches and struck out four times. Sophomore Parker Glassmaker scored twice, hit a single and had an RBI while sophomore Gage Johnson scored two runs and hit a single. Junior Lucas Braun scored a run and hit a single and junior Michael Peterson hit a single.

Johnson stole three bases, Braun took two and Glassmaker and Peterson stole one each. Junior Xander Tentinger pitched six innings of the game and allowed one hit, walked one and struck out 10. Glassmaker threw for an inning and walked two and struck out one.

On Thursday against Trinity Christian, the Royals put up five runs in the first and two in the second before the Tigers scored three runs in the third and one in the fourth. MMCRU put up another two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh for the 12-4 victory.

MMCRU hit nine singles and had 11 RBIs. They were walked nine times, hit by a pitch and struck out once. Peterson hit two singles and had three RBIs, Braun scored twice, hit a single and had two RBIs and senior Mitchell Schnepf scored a run, hit two singles and had two RBIs. Glassmaker scored two runs, hit a single and had an RBI, Johnson and sophomore Michael Schmillen each scored a run, hit a single and had an RBI and senior Owen Schroeder had an RBI.

The Royals stole 12 bases, led by Johnson with three, while Braun and Tentinger had two each and Glassmaker, Schnepf, Peterson, Schmillen and sophomore Brandon Dreckman stole one each. Peterson pitched four innings and allowed five hits, four runs, one earned, walked two, hit one batter and struck out nine. Senior Cody Evans threw for three innings and allowed two hits, hit one batter and struck out two.

In the win over HMS on Friday, the Royals put up four runs in each the first and second before the Hawks scored their one run in the third. MMCRU put up three more in the fourth for the 11-1 win.

MMCRU had eight hits, three singles, four doubles and a home run, with eight RBIs. They were walked five times, hit by two pitches and struck out once. Schnepf hit the home run and had two RBIs, Peterson hit a double and had four RBIs and Braun scored three times, hit a single and two doubles and had an RBI.

Johnson, Glassmaker and Dreckman stole two bases each while Braun and Peterson took one each. Schnepf pitched three innings and allowed two hits, one run, walked two and struck out four. Sophomore Eli Schlenger threw for two innings and struck out two.

In the shutout victory over the Mustangs, the Royals scored four runs in the first, two in each the second and third, and one in each the fourth and fifth.

MMCRU had eight hits, four singles, three doubles and a home run, with six RBIs. They were walked 15 times and struck out seven times. Schnepf hit the home run and had two RBIs while Glassmaker scored twice, hit two doubles and had an RBI. Johnson scored twice, hit a single and had an RBI, Peterson scored once, hit a single and had an RBI and Schlenger hit a double and had an RBI.

Johnson stole three bases, Peterson took two and Braun stole one. Schlenger pitched four innings and allowed three hits and struck out five, and Glassmaker threw an inning where he walked two and struck out one.

MMCRU is now 12-6 and was scheduled to face Harris-Lake Park on Wednesday and Spirit Lake on Thursday. They will host 15-6 Alta-Aurelia on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
