Royals softball wins one, drop three

The MMCRU softball team took a win and three losses in play this past week, first a 12-7 road loss to South O’Brien on Wednesday before an 11-4 home victory over Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley on Thursday. On Friday they fell 11-3 to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in Remsen and they fell 7-3 at Trinity Christian on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the Royals scored one run in the first and two in the second, but the Wolverines fired off for six runs in the third. MMCRU scored another run in the top of the fifth, South O’Brien scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth and the Royals scored three in the sixth for the 12-7 final.

MMCRU had eight hits, six singles and two doubles, with four RBIs. They were walked there times and struck out seven times. Senior Kaleigh Gravenish scored a run, hit two singles and had an RBI while junior Breanna Staab scored two runs and hit three singles and a double. Junior Cassie Weiler scored a run and hit a double, freshman Tia Tentinger scored a run and had an RBI, and freshmen Gracie Schroeder and Aleah Lux each had an RBI.

Staab stole three bases in the game. Gravenish pitched three innings and allowed five hits, six runs, two earned, walked two, hit one batter and struck out five. Junior Isabelle Richardson threw for three innings and allowed six hits, six runs, four earned, walked five and struck out two.

In the win over the Nighthawks on Thursday, MMCRU had nine hits, six singles and three doubles, with five RBIs. They were walked six times, hit by a pitch and struck out twice. Gravenish scored a run, hit a double and had two RBIs, Staab scored twice and hit two doubles and Schroeder scored three runs, hit a single and had an RBI. Senior Mykin Youde scored a run, hit two singles and had an RBI and Lux scored a run and had an RBI.

Staab, Youde and Tentinger each stole a base in the game. Richardson pitched all seven innings and allowed six hits, four runs, one earned, walked five and struck out five.

In the loss to HMS on Friday, both teams scored two runs in the first before the Hawks put up five runs in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth. MMCRU scored another run in the fifth as the Hawks scored one in the sixth for the 11-3 final.

Against Trinity Christian on Tuesday, the Tigers scored three runs in the second as the Royals put up two in the third. Trinity Christian added four more runs in the fifth and MMCRU scored a run in the seventh, but fell 7-3.

MMCRU is now 7-12 and was scheduled to face Harris-Lake Park on Wednesday and Sheldon on Thursday. They will host 2-20 Lawton-Bronson on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
