The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is once again sponsoring two annual Youth Patriotic Scholarship contests: Voice of Democracy for 9-12 grade students and Patriot’s Pen for 6-8 grade students. The theme for the 2024-2025 Voice of Democracy is “Is America Today Our Forefathers’ Vision” with the National Winner receiving at least a $35,000 scholarship. The theme for the 2024-2025 Patriot’s Pen is “My Voice in America’s Democracy?” with the National Winner awarded at least $5,000.
Scholarships are also awarded at the local, district and state levels. L.A. Wescott VFW Post 2253, Cherokee, is awarding $100 for first place, $75 for second place and $50 for third place for winning entries in both contests at the local level.
The first place winner of each contest will be submitted to the VFW District for competition at the District level with winners submitted to the state level and winners at there state level submitted on to the National level. Entries must be received by midnight on October 31, 2024.
