Warrior softball takes one win, drops three last week

The Alta-Aurelia softball team traveled to face Emmetsburg on Wednesday where they suffered a 9-3 loss before a 3-1 home win over Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire on Friday. On Saturday the Warriors hosted a tournament where they suffered a pair of losses, 12-2 to East Sac County and 2-1 to Ridge View.

On Wednesday against Emmetsburg, the E-Hawks put up four runs in the first and the Warriors scored two in the third. Emmetsburg scored two runs in the fifth, Alta-Aurelia put up one in the top of the sixth and the E-Hawks followed up with three in the bottom of the sixth for the 9-3 final.

Alta-Aurelia hit seven singles and had two RBIs. They were walked three times and struck out seven times. Sophomores Kadence Langschwager and Peyton Kies each scored a run and hit two singles. Senior Addison Fritz hit a single and had an RBI, sophomore Clare Gunkelman had an RBI and Eighth grader Quimby Kies scored a run.

Junior Nora Peterson and Quimby Kies each stole a base in the game. Freshman Leah Kannegieter pitched the whole game and allowed 12 hits, nine runs, eight earned, walked two and struck out one.

In the win over GTRA on Friday, the Warriors scored two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. The Titans put up a run in the seventh, but the Warriors took the win at 3-1.

Alta-Aurelia hit seven singles and had three RBIs. They wee walked four times, hit by a pitch and struck out thrice. Quimby Kies hit a single and had two RBIs while Peyton Kies scored a run and hit two singles. Langschwager hit a single and had an RBI, Gunkelman and Fritz each scored a run and hit a single, and junior Caitlyn Mattson hit a single.

Langschwager, Peyton Kies and Gunkelman each stole a base in the game. Senior Lily Reeves pitched all seven innings and allowed four hits, one run, walked three, hit one batter and struck out three.

On Saturday against East Sac County, the Raiders put up one run in the first, two in the second and one in the third before the Warriors scored their two runs in the top of the fourth. East Sac County scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth and three in the fifth for the 12-2 final.

Alta-Aurelia had two hits, a single and a double, with two RBIs. They were walked four times, hit by a pitch and struck out seven times. Langschwager hit a double and had two Rbis while Kies hit a single. Mattson and junior Savannah Johnson each scored a run.

Mattson stole two bases while Johnson and Peterson each took one. Reeves pitched the whole game and allowed 10 hits, 12 runs, six earned, walked two, hit two batters and struck out five.

In the 2-1 loss to the Raptors, the Warriors hit two singles, were walked four times, hit by a pitch and struck out nine times. Nora Peterson and freshman Elsie Peterson each hit a single while Mattson scored the run.

Mattson and Peyton Kies each stole a base in the game. Sophomore Hayden Berkland pitched the whole game and allowed four hits, two runs, one earned, walked three, hit one batter and struck out four.

Alta-Aurelia is now 5-14 overall, 3-7 in the Twin Lakes Conference, and was scheduled to face OABCIG on Wednesday and Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Thursday. They will host 10-8 Gehlen Catholic on Monday at 7 p.m.
