Warriors win 3-0 over GTRA


ALTA - The Alta-Aurelia volleyball team hosted Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire on Thursday and took a 3-0 win.

  The Warriors started off hot and took a 25-7 win in set one before fighting for the other two sets at 25-16 and 25-18, but still swept the match.

  Alta-Aurelia’s offense had 30 kills and 25 assists for a kill efficiency of .195. Junior Ella Nielsen led with eight kills while sophomore Breyer Anderson had five. Junior Allison Watts and Jaci DeGroot, and senior Morgan Westphal had four kills each. Senior Chloe Elston had all 25 assists.

  On defense the team had 31 digs and three blocks. Junior Maggie Bloom had eight digs while junior Lucy Gunkelman had five. Watts had a solo and assisted block while DeGroot had one solo block.

  The team served up nine aces and went 61-of-69 on serves for a serve efficiency of 88.4 percent. Watts had five aces and went a perfect 23-of-23 on serves while junior Raelee Page had two aces and went 14-of-15. Bloom and senior Kelsey Erlandson had one ace each.

  We got off to a quick start tonight,” said Alta-Aurelia head volleyball coach Jeannie Henningsen. “We got to play a lot of different players tonight to showcase their talents. Our seniors, Chloe, Morgan, Emily, and Kelsey have led our team this year and they all helped win this match tonight. They are a great senior group.”

  Alta-Aurelia rises to 13-6 overall, 8-2 in the Twin Lakes Conference, and will host 14-13, 4-4 in the TLC, East Sac County on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. for their final regular season match. Looking towards the post season the Warriors will host 15-12 Lawton-Bronson next Wednesday at 7 p.m. On their side of the bracket is 22-2 Hinton, 15-13 Pocahontas Area and 4-10 Sioux Central. On the other side is 25-4 Ridge View, 30-5 South Central Calhoun, 21-9 West Monona, 14-13 East Sac County and 6-15 MVAOCOU.
