WAYNE A. ADMIRE, 80, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.
Graveside memorial services will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery at Quimby, Iowa. There will be no visitation. Military rites will be performed by the Cherokee American Legion and L.A. Wescott Post #2253. The Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee, Iowa is assisting with the arrangements. Wayne was born on November 13, 1942 to Frank and Mildred (Miller) Admire at Lake Park, Iowa. He attended Quimby Consolidated and Willow Community Schools, graduating in 1962. Wayne enlisted in the United States Army in 1964 and served until 1984. He was promoted to Sgt. 1st Class. He served tours overseas and was stationed in Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, and Germany. Wayne earned numerous honors in the military including a Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation with Oak Leaf, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Medal, Good Conduct, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
After his service, Wayne worked for the Cherokee Sheriff’s Department as a radio dispatcher until his retirement in 2002. He was extremely proud of his work and service to the country and community.
Wayne was active with the V.F.W., American Legion, Vietnam Veterans, and Disabled Veterans groups. He was a former member and treasurer of Quimby Town and Country.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Lynda Collins.
Wayne is survived by his nephew, Albert Collins, and many friends.
