Wolverines fall to Royals, Titans, beat Hawks

The South O’Brien baseball team suffered a 5-0 loss to MMCRU on Wednesday, but took an 8-5 road win over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Monday and lost 8-4 at Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire on Tuesday.

On Wednesday the Royals scored two runs in each the first and third, and added one in the sixth for the 5-0 final. Senior Mitchell Enger had the team’s only hit of the game, a single, as the team was walked three times and struck out 11 times. Senior Trevor Fiddelke pitched the whole game and allowed four hits, five runs, four earned, walked two, hit two batters and struck out four.

In the win over HMS, both teams scored two runs in the first before the Wolverines put put three runs in the second and two in the third. HMS scored a run in each the fourth and sixth innings, and both teams scored a run in the seventh for the 8-5 final.

South O’Brien had eight hits, five singles, two doubles and a triple, with seven RBIs. They were walked six times, hit by a pitch and struck out 16 times. Sophomore Damian Villarreal scored four runs, hit a single, double and triple, with one RBI, while sophomore Gabe Moermond hit two singles for two RBIs. Fiddelke hit a single and had two RBI, sophomore Brady Riedemann had two RBIs, senior Ben Woodall scored two runs and sophomore Jaden Kreber scored twice and hit a single and a double.

Villarreal and Woodall each stole a base in the game. Fiddelke pitched five innings and allowed 10 hits, four runs, three earned, walked two and struck out five. Enger threw for an inning and allowed one hit, one run, walked two and struck out one, and junior Ryan Fuller took the mound for an inning where he walked two.

Against GTRA the Wolverines put up two runs in the top of the first, but the Titans scored three runs in the bottom of the first. South O’Brien scored two more runs in the fourth to lead 4-3, but GTRA fired off for five runs in the sixth to win 8-4.

South O’Brien is now 5-13 and was scheduled to face Sheldon on Thursday. They will host 4-10 West Sioux on Monday at 7 p.m.
